It is a great honour for us to invite you to the 11th International Conference on Paleoceanography (ICP 11) in Sitges, Barcelona on September 1-6, 2013.

As the venue, we have chosen the convention centre of the Melià Hotel, which provides a large capacity auditorium in addition to nicely appointed and spacious meeting rooms for comfortable and stimulating discussions. The site, 25 min. south of Barcelona, takes advantage of the friendly, Mediterranean atmosphere of Sitges, a small coastal hamlet long known for its unique ambiance and well-provided tourist infrastructure, both of which sould make your visit comfortable.

The ICP events date back to 1983, so next year we will be celebrating three decades of these tri-annual gatherings of the paleoceanographic community. Over the past 30 years, the ICP events have established a strong tradition in pushing paleoceanographic research forward, witnessing and stimulating the great progress and achievements that this multi-disciplinary field has made. Keeping in mind the themes of previous ICP events (full list below), and after evaluating the major research fronts and questions being addressed currently by the paleoceanographic community, we have designed a scientific program for ICP 11 that we believe will be stimulating and inspiring for attendants from across the ocean and climate science communities. We are working hard to ensure that this upcoming event will live up to the high standards of past ICPs and get you in touch with the cutting edge advances in paleoceanographic research.

Following the tradition set by previous ICPs, the conference will be organised along five broad session themes, addressed through plenary sessions and oral presentations in the mornings accompanied by extensive poster sessions in the afternoons. In addition, we are also planning various social events, including the traditional Paleomusicology concert, to make the meeting a pleasant experience in all aspects.

We look forward to seeing you all next year in Sitges at what promises to be a most stimulating and enjoyable event!
